The Tool for Success is Hunger
Throughout my life, I have cultivated the desire to improve: the will to get better, the constant hunger for something more. When I started in business, I had no experience. If you had asked me what a P&L was, I would have given a blank stare. I wrote my first schedule with pen and paper. I was placed in a learning disability class from 2nd to 8th grade to teach me how to do basic things like read and write. I didn’t have know-how or any special skills. The one thing I had through all this learning and growth process was hunger. In that aspect of my character there was no lack. No matter how much you fed me I simply wanted more.
As a leader who has accomplished a small amount of success I still hold onto that hunger. I find ways to feed it. No one makes me wake up early or stay late, yet the fire to be more still burns within me stronger now than before.
Today you may feel inadequate or simply like you don’t have it in you to reach your dreams. In my eyes, the most effective tool for success is hunger, and the persistence to convert that hunger into action. It’s not about how much you know or how smart you are, but the willingness to show up everyday and be willing to go the extra mile.
